Cardio Day – Busting Through

Back  in the day when I was a high school track star (read 20 years ago!), I had no problem working out in the afternoon.   A handful of post-lunch Hershey kisses gave me enough energy to power through the two hours of weight training and sprint intervals.   Oh, the metabolism of an 18 year old athlete!

Now that my ’30s are well underway, I’ve realized two personal workout fundamentals.

  1. Breakfast – mix of lean protein, healthy carbs and MUFA fats.
  2. Workout – must start before 9:00 a.m.  or it just won’t happen.

So fueled by turkey bacon and whole grain english muffin with nut butter, I hopped on the Schwinn bike to do cardio.   Today’s workout:

  1. 43 minutes Program 1 sustained hill climb, 13.25 miles, 504 calories.  Beat my previous record-to-date by .64 miles.  YEEHA!
  2. Three 1-minute forearm planks, straight legs, forearms on squishy pillows (no half Bosu available).  Became a pottymouth about  :30 seconds into each plank.
  3. 15 pike pulls on Bosu ball
  4. Stretching, especially hip flexors, quads, calves.

Feeling a little sore, but definitely happy about the extra mileage I pulled out.  Hope you can get your workout in before tonight’s episode of The Biggest Loser. The dreaded WEEK 2 Curse!  But doesn’t everything seem a little brighter when Curtis Stone is on campus?  Pop quiz time and healthy cooking tips tonight…with a side of Aussie cheer.
